Agronomist Mirco De Pieri
Mirco De Pieri attended the same school as Adriano, the Cerletti Institute at Conegliano, and has been working at the Collalto Winery since 1987. His most impressive quality is his intimate knowledge of every square centimetre of its 150 hectares (371 Acres) of vineyard, the precious collection of vineyards he likes to refer to as Collalto’s “repository.”
It is without doubt Mirco De Pieri’s intimate understanding of the local terroir, soils, and climate, in concert with a detailed knowledge of each variety’s potential and requirements, that enables Collalto, year after year, to bring into the cellar fruit that is always in the healthiest condition and at optimal ripeness levels.
Mirco De Pieri, with his staff of 15 and in close collaboration with Adriano Cenedese, works to develop each vineyard’s full potential, particularly those planted to the native varieties. He is currently executing a detailed plan on vineyard re-planting, according to parcel soil types, the age of each vineyard, and the distinctive needs of each single variety, with the objective of a production that will always be high in quality and limited in quantity.
“Each separate vineyard has its own particular needs,” explains De Pieri; “we could almost say that those needs change from row to row. The work of a viticulturalist is a fascinating mix of sensitivity towards the vines and at the same time an awareness of cutting-edge agronomic practices and of the latest advances in field work. Carrying out research in this sector is crucial, and we at Collalto have always worked closely together with the most prestigious universities and agricultural institutes involved in this work.”
Mirco and Adriano are two true professionals, completely committed to their vocations, ample evidence being the intensity they devote to the winery’s objectives, year after year. Their long years of passionate experience and their loyalty to the Collalto family constitute an immensely valuable resource and value for the Collalto winery.
